Taxi Information for the Algarve

Taxis are a safe, easy and relatively cheap way of getting around. The taxis are easily identifiable – they are either beige or black and green. Ranks are found in all the resorts, towns and shopping centres. It is best to either go to a rank or call a taxi to collect you as it is not legal for them to stop in the street and pick people up, so you can't flag them down. Demand often outstrips availability during the high season, so it is a good idea to keep the central rank telephone number with you before you go out, especially at night. Taxis normally take four passengers but there are some six and eight seater taxis available, however if you are a part of a bigger group it is advisable to book beforehand.
